— Why D4 Season
A quieter way to find your best massage.
The question we hear most on the Shoreline phone line isn't about price. It's some version of: Swedish or deep tissue — which one do I actually want? Fair question. Most menus list half a dozen options and leave you to guess. This page is our long answer.
First, the setting, because it shapes everything else. D4 Season sits at 15507 Westminster Way N Ste 7E — a small neighborhood studio a block off Aurora, not a storefront in a mall. The loudest thing you'll hear inside is water. We opened in 2022 as Seattle's first specialized head spa, and the massage side of the studio inherited that temperament: unhurried, low-lit, arranged around one guest at a time.
Massage itself has quietly become ordinary self-care in this country — national survey data summarized by the NCCIH show the share of U.S. adults using massage roughly doubled over two decades. What hasn't kept pace is plain guidance on choosing a style. So here's how we'd walk you through ours, in the order we'd say it over the phone.
— The hour itself
What the hour feels like on Westminster Way.
Whichever style you land on, the shape of the visit stays the same. You arrive, we talk for a few minutes — pressure preferences, sore spots, anything off-limits — and then the hour belongs to you. No paperwork marathon, no hard sell on products at the end.
The first ten minutes
You undress to your own comfort level and settle under the drape; only the area being worked is ever uncovered. The opening minutes are deliberately slow — long, warming strokes that give your body time to decide it's safe to let go. Most guests notice their breathing change before anything else does.
Pressure is a conversation
Nothing about a good massage requires gritting your teeth. If deep work drifts from productive to punishing, say so mid-stroke — adjusting is part of the therapist's craft, not an interruption. Afterward: water, a slow walk to the car, and ideally nothing scheduled for the next hour. The calm keeps better when you don't sprint straight back into traffic.
— Choosing a style
Swedish, deep tissue or CBD oil — a working guide.
Four honest descriptions, no jargon. If none of them sounds like you, call us and describe your week instead — that works too.
Swedish: the default for a reason
Swedish massage — long, gliding, medium-pressure strokes over the whole body — is the most widely taught style in Western countries, and it's where most people should start. Sixty minutes is $85; ninety, at $125, simply lets everything slow down further. Choose it when the goal is to feel calmer and sleep better rather than to chase one stubborn knot. The American Massage Therapy Association takes the position that massage can support physical, mental and social well-being; we'd narrow that broad claim to something we can stand behind nightly — an unhurried Swedish hour is the most reliable off-switch we offer.
Deep tissue: slower, deeper, more specific
Deep tissue trades the glide for slow, deliberate pressure into deeper muscle layers — $95 for 60 minutes, $135 for 90. It suits long-standing knots, old desk damage and bodies that find firm pressure clarifying rather than uncomfortable. Expect a touch of next-day tenderness; that's the work settling, not something gone wrong. It should still never be painful in the moment — that's what the pressure conversation is for.
CBD oil and Deep Blue: the topical route
Two of our 60-minute sessions, both $95, change the oil rather than the technique. The CBD Oil Massage uses a topical CBD-infused oil that guests choose for its calming feel on the skin; the Deep Blue Pain Relief Massage uses a cooling essential-oil blend that lands especially well on tired backs and legs. Neither is a medical treatment and we claim nothing beyond comfort — they're different sensations layered onto the same skilled hands.
The head spa pairing
Because we're a head spa first, Shoreline guests get an option most massage studios simply can't offer: follow your massage with warm-water scalp work in the same visit. Shoulders first, scalp second — it's our own favorite sequence, and the closest thing on the menu to a full-system reset. There's a whole page on the head spa and massage pairing near Seattle North if you're curious how the two fit together.
— Around Shoreline
Areas we serve near Shoreline.
The studio draws from the whole north end: Shoreline and Lake Forest Park first, then Greenwood, Northgate and the rest of north Seattle, with Edmonds and Lynnwood a short hop up I-5 or Highway 99. A lot of regulars found us on a head spa visit and stayed for the massage side.
If Lynnwood is actually your closer studio, everything on this page — the styles, the prices, the pairing advice — applies there identically. One menu, two addresses, one phone number.
And if quiet is the whole point of your visit, aim for a weekday morning. Those are the stillest hours we have, and the ones our most sleep-deprived guests swear by.

Booking for two? The Couple Massage — Swedish for two in one room, $170 — lives on the same menu, and the couples massage in Shoreline page covers how the side-by-side setup works. You can also compare every option at once on the body therapy hub.
Hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 9 PM, and Sunday 10 AM to 8 PM. Reserve online through the Shoreline booking page, or call (206) 688-9700 — and if you're still torn between Swedish and deep tissue when you dial, good. It's our favorite question.

— Common questions
Asked & answered.
What's the real difference between Swedish and deep tissue at your studio? +
Swedish uses long, gliding, medium-pressure strokes across the whole body and is built for relaxation. Deep tissue moves slower and presses into deeper muscle layers to work specific, long-standing tension. If you're choosing blind, start Swedish — you can always ask for firmer pressure mid-session.
What does the CBD oil massage involve — will I feel anything from the CBD? +
It's a 60-minute massage ($95) performed with a topical CBD-infused oil that guests choose for its calming feel on the skin. It isn't intoxicating and we make no health claims about it — think of it as a different finish on the same relaxing technique.
Can I add a head spa to my massage in the same Shoreline visit? +
Yes, and it's the pairing we recommend most. Massage first to loosen the shoulders, then a warm-water head spa to finish. Mention it when you book so we can schedule the two back to back with one therapist handoff.
Which massage should a first-timer pick? +
The 60-minute Swedish ($85). It's gentle, full-body and forgiving, and it teaches you what you like — pressure, pace, focus areas — so your second booking can be smarter. Tell us it's your first massage and we'll walk you through everything before you're on the table.
Is the Deep Blue massage the same thing as deep tissue? +
No. Deep Blue refers to the cooling essential-oil blend used during the session, not the pressure level — it's applied with standard relaxing technique. Deep tissue describes the technique itself. You can ask for firmer pressure in a Deep Blue session, but they're separate menu items, each $95 for 60 minutes.
Do you take walk-ins at the Shoreline studio? +
We work by appointment, and the studio is small enough that same-day walk-ins rarely find an open table. Call (206) 688-9700 on the day — if there's a gap, we'll happily fit you in — but booking even a day ahead is the safer route.
What should I wear, and how undressed do I need to be? +
Come in whatever's comfortable. On the table you undress only to your own comfort level, and draping keeps everything but the area being worked covered at all times. Plenty of guests keep underwear on; some prefer clothed neck-and-shoulder work. All of it is fine.
