— Why D4 Season
Scalp care that starts with the complaint.
Count what touches your scalp in an average week. Shampoo, sure — but also dry shampoo on the days you skip washing, texture spray before work, maybe wax or pomade, the hood of a rain jacket, a bike helmet, your own hands. A scalp collects all of it. When guests from the Alderwood area tell us their roots look flat by noon, or that their head just feels coated, that's usually the whole story: not poor hygiene, just daily styling doing what daily styling does.
A professional scalp treatment is the counterweight. At D4 Season in Lynnwood — 18500 33rd Ave W Suite C, a few minutes from Alderwood Mall — every session follows the same arc: we look at your scalp first, treat what we actually find, then close with massage and conditioning. That first step is the difference between a treatment and a nice shampoo.
We've organized this page the way conversations at our front desk actually go: by concern. Oily scalp, product buildup, or dryness and tightness — find yours below and you'll see how the treatment approaches it, and which menu options fit. And one thing we say up front, every time: if your concern looks medical rather than cosmetic — persistent flaking, sores, sudden shedding — a dermatologist should see it before we do.
— By concern
Three scalp concerns, three ways in.
Most of what walks through our Lynnwood door sorts into three buckets. They overlap — an oily scalp usually carries buildup too, and a dry one can still flake — but naming your main complaint makes the menu much easier to read. Here's how we work each one.
Oily scalp: roots that rebound by mid-afternoon
Some scalps simply produce more oil than others, and scrubbing harder at home tends to backfire — the scalp gets stripped, feels dry for a day, then compensates. A professional deep cleanse takes a different route. We loosen oil at the root level slowly and thoroughly, rinse with plenty of warm water, and keep conditioning on the lengths of the hair instead of the scalp itself. To be clear about the limits: we can't change how much oil your scalp makes — that's biology — but we can clear everything sitting on the surface, which is usually what the heaviness actually is.
The menu match here is Purifying Scalp Care: 90 minutes at $168, built entirely around deep cleansing and finished with a scalp serum and red LED light. For upkeep between deep cleans, the 60-minute D4 Signature Head Spa at $85 keeps oil from getting ahead of you.
Product buildup: the film daily styling leaves behind
Dry shampoo is the usual culprit. Its starches sit at the root, mix with oil, and set into a film that an ordinary wash slides straight over. Wax, pomade and hairspray do the same thing lower down the hair shaft. During the treatment we work in sections, hairline to crown, so the cleanse reaches the scalp everywhere rather than just where the water lands. Guests often describe the after-feeling as getting their actual hair back — lighter at the root, more movement, color that reads a shade brighter. If you want the fuller background on how residue accumulates, we wrote a plain-language guide to head spa treatments for scalp buildup.
For a first booking, the Aura Scalp Treatment is the sensible pick: 75 minutes at $110, pairing the deep cleaning with a proper scalp analysis and a finishing serum. If you style your hair every single day, this is the one we'd point you to.
Dry and tight: the scalp that feels a size too small
Winter heating, hot showers and hard water all pull moisture from the scalp, and a dry scalp usually announces itself as tightness before it ever flakes. Here the treatment leans away from stripping and toward comfort — a gentler cleanse, more time on massage, and conditioning chosen to leave the scalp feeling settled rather than squeaky. The Chinese Herb Head Spa (60 minutes, $90) uses Chinese herbal ingredients and a scalp essential oil chosen for exactly that soothing feel, while the 90-minute Luxury Head Spa ($135) adds a hair repair treatment and a longer massage.
An honest boundary, though. If itching or flaking is persistent, patchy or painful, book a dermatologist before you book us. A spa treatment can make a dry scalp feel more comfortable; it cannot diagnose or treat a scalp condition, and we won't pretend otherwise.
— The method
Analysis first, then the treatment earns its keep.
Every option on our menu, from the 30-minute aromatherapy session to the full 90-minute rituals, moves through the same four beats: analysis, targeted treatment, massage, conditioning. What changes between menu items is how deep each beat goes — never the order.
The middle of the session is a scalp massage, and it isn't filler. Scalp massage belongs to the same family of hands-on soft-tissue work that the NCCIH describes people using, above all, to relax — one of the oldest self-care practices there is. We keep it in every treatment because slow, even pressure on the scalp is genuinely calming, and because it turns a corrective service into something you'd actually look forward to.
What the analysis tells us
Before any water runs, we examine your scalp closely — often under magnification on the longer treatments. It shows whether the scalp is reading oily, dry or buildup-heavy that day, and where residue concentrates; the crown and hairline are the usual suspects. The analysis also keeps us honest. We treat what's visible, and if what's visible looks like something for a doctor, we'll say so instead of selling you a serum.
Conditioning and the quiet last stretch
The close of the session matches the opening diagnosis: hydrating conditioning for a tight scalp, lightweight for an oily one, and on treatments that include it, hydrotherapy — a slow stream of warm water over the scalp that most guests name as their favorite minute of the hour. The NCCIH describes relaxation as a low-risk, low-cost way of easing everyday stress, and lying still under warm water with your eyes closed is about the simplest form that takes. You leave blow-dried, with a scalp that feels clean rather than scoured.
— Menu & pricing
Matching the menu to your concern.
A short cheat sheet before the full menu. Oily scalp: Purifying Scalp Care, $168. Daily-styling buildup: Aura Scalp Treatment, $110. Dry and tight: Chinese Herb Head Spa at $90, or the Luxury Head Spa at $135 when you want the longer version. And if you'd rather not choose at all, Scalp Revitalize Therapy at $220 runs the whole playbook — analysis, deep cleansing, double shampoo, a steam hair mask and an LED serum infusion — in one 90-minute sitting.
There are shorter doors in, too. TCM Head Aromatherapy ($50, 30 minutes) is mostly massage and calm, a fine first taste; the Classic Head Spa ($70, 45 minutes) suits short hair only. Prices are identical at our Shoreline studio, gratuity isn't included, and if what you're really after is the full cleanse-first ritual, compare the scalp detox in Lynnwood — same menu, different emphasis.
Stuck between two options? Book the shorter one and tell us the concern when you arrive. Upgrading mid-visit is easy when the schedule allows, and nobody here works on commission.
— Visit us
Around Alderwood, and how to book.
The studio sits just west of Alderwood Mall off 33rd Ave W, quick to reach from both I-5 and I-405. That junction puts a lot of the south county within fifteen minutes of us: regulars drive in from Bothell, Edmonds, Mill Creek and Mountlake Terrace, and plenty fold an appointment into an Alderwood errand run. Weekday afternoons are the calmest time to come; Saturday slots for the 90-minute treatments go first.
Hours are Monday through Saturday 10 AM to 9 PM, Sunday 10 AM to 8 PM. Book online through the Lynnwood page or call (206) 688-9700 — name the concern on the phone and we'll name the treatment. One request: come with your hair as it is. Unwashed is genuinely better, because we want to see your scalp in its everyday state before we clean it.

— Common questions
Asked & answered.
Which treatment should I book for an oily scalp that rebounds a day after washing? +
Purifying Scalp Care (90 minutes, $168) is the one built for it — deep cleansing, a scalp serum and red LED light. We can't change how much oil your scalp produces, but we can clear what's sitting on the surface, which is usually what makes roots feel heavy so fast.
Can a scalp treatment actually remove dry-shampoo and styling-product buildup? +
Yes — that's the job it does best. Dry-shampoo starches and product residue set into a film a home wash slides over; we cleanse in sections from hairline to crown so the whole scalp gets reached. The Aura Scalp Treatment ($110, 75 minutes) pairs that deep clean with an analysis and finishing serum.
What does the scalp analysis at the start involve? +
We examine the scalp before any water runs — under magnification on the longer treatments — to see whether it's reading oily, dry or buildup-heavy that day and where residue concentrates. The treatment is then adjusted to what we found, not to what the booking said.
My scalp feels tight and itchy in winter — is this the right service? +
Often, yes. For a dry, tight scalp we use a gentler cleanse, longer massage and hydrating conditioning, and options like the Chinese Herb Head Spa ($90) are chosen for comfort. But if the itch is persistent, patchy or painful, see a dermatologist first — that's a medical question, and we don't treat conditions.
Do fine hair and thick hair need different scalp treatments? +
The concern matters more than the hair type, but the handling changes: fine hair mats faster under product, so we keep conditioning light and off the roots; dense or curly hair needs more sectioning time so the cleanse reaches skin. Tell us your hair type when booking and we'll pace the session for it.
How often should I come in if I style my hair every day? +
Daily dry shampoo or product usually means buildup returns in four to six weeks, so that's the rhythm most styling-heavy guests settle into — a deep clean like the Aura or Purifying, with the $85 Signature as an easy maintenance visit in between.
Where exactly is the Lynnwood studio, and do I need to book ahead? +
We're at 18500 33rd Ave W Suite C, just west of Alderwood Mall and quick from I-5 or I-405. Booking ahead is smart for the 90-minute treatments, especially Saturdays; shorter sessions can often fit on a weekday afternoon with a day's notice. Call (206) 688-9700.

A head spa is, at heart, a scalp massage and a deliberate hour of relaxation. We don't make medical claims about it — for neutral, non-promotional background on the wellness practices it draws on, see the NCCIH on massage therapy , relaxation techniques , managing stress , traditional Chinese medicine and the Mayo Clinic on easing tension headaches .
