A deep scalp treatment is the head spa to book when your scalp feels heavy from oil, sweat, dry shampoo or weeks of styling product. It's a thorough clean rather than a quick refresh. We clear the buildup, rebalance the scalp, and then condition and calm it.
D4 Season runs this deep-cleansing tier at both of its north-end studios, Shoreline and Lynnwood. From anywhere along the north Seattle corridor, one of them is a short drive. We opened in 2022 as Seattle's first specialized head spa, and detox-style scalp work is one of the things the studio was built to do well.
It's also the tier people book with the seasons. After a summer of sunscreen and sweat, or a winter of hats and dry indoor air, a normal wash often isn't enough for the scalp.
Every deep scalp treatment starts with a scalp analysis under magnification. That way the cleanse and the products match how your scalp actually behaves, instead of one routine for everyone. The menu and pricing are the same at both locations.
Two kinds of guests tend to book this tier. Some have had head spas before and want the deepest version. Others have noticed their scalp getting heavier, with more oil, more flaking or more product than an ordinary wash can clear. Both usually leave with a scalp that feels lighter.

What happens in a deep scalp treatment.
A deep scalp treatment adds extra cleansing steps to the usual head spa. After the scalp analysis comes exfoliation, then a clarifying cleanse (sometimes done twice), a targeted serum or mask, and a scalp-and-shoulder massage. The hydrotherapy rinse at the end leaves the scalp feeling light.
The higher tiers add more. Purifying Scalp Care works to lift excess oil and product buildup and finishes with a scalp serum and red LED light. Scalp Revitalize Therapy adds a double shampoo and conditioning, a steam hair mask and an LED serum infusion with premium products.
Even the longest of these stays comfortable from start to finish. You're reclined the whole time, the massage is worked in between the cleansing steps, and nobody rushes you. The cleaning is thorough, but it never feels clinical, and that comfort is why most people rebook.
The deep-cleansing steps
It works in two stages. First we clear off what's sitting on the scalp, then we put moisture and comfort back, so you don't leave with a tight, over-cleaned feeling. The massage keeps going throughout, which keeps the whole thing relaxing.
We end by rebalancing the scalp, because an over-cleaned scalp can feel tight and reactive. A conditioning step leaves it comfortable instead of squeaky, and the higher tiers add a serum or LED finish. If your scalp tends to run dry, tell us and we'll adjust.
A note on herbs and TCM
Two menu items draw on traditional Chinese ingredients: the Chinese Herb Head Spa and our TCM Head Aromatherapy. As the NCCIH notes, traditional Chinese medicine has developed over thousands of years around herbal and physical approaches. We use these as a relaxing, aromatic part of the treatment and make no medical claims about them.
Who it's for
Deep cleansing is the tier for oily, product-heavy or congested-feeling scalps, and for anyone who leans on dry shampoo and styling product between washes. If your scalp already feels balanced, a standard head spa is usually plenty. We'll tell you that instead of steering you to the priciest option.

The deep-cleansing services sit in the upper half of the head spa menu. There's the Chinese Herb Head Spa ($90, 60 min) and the Aura Scalp Treatment ($110, 75 min). Above those are Purifying Scalp Care ($168, 90 min) and Scalp Revitalize Therapy ($220, 90 min). If you're new to scalp detox, the Aura Scalp Treatment is an easy place to start. Even at its most thorough, this is a wellness treatment and not a medical one. A big part of it is the calm: warm water, a long massage and a quiet room. Independent bodies describe relaxation practices as a low-cost, low-risk way to ease everyday stress, and the NCCIH on relaxation techniques is a neutral place to read more. How often to come is up to you. If your scalp runs oily or you use a lot of product, every four to six weeks keeps it feeling clear. If it stays balanced, you might come in less often. We'll suggest a schedule after the analysis instead of guessing.
If you're deciding between tiers, think about how heavy your scalp feels. For a little buildup, the Aura Scalp Treatment is plenty. For a lot of product, sweat or oil, the Purifying or Scalp Revitalize services give the cleanse more time and more tools to work with.

Between the Shoreline and Lynnwood studios, the deep-cleansing tier is within reach of north Seattle, Lake Forest Park, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Lynnwood, Mill Creek and up toward Everett. From the city, Shoreline is usually closer; from Snohomish County, Lynnwood tends to win.
Both studios run the identical deep-cleansing menu at the same prices, so the only real decision is which drive suits your day. Not sure? Book whichever is closer. The treatment is the same either way.
Both studios sit close to the main I-5 corridor, so wherever you start in the north end the drive is usually the easy part. Deep-cleansing services run 60 to 90 minutes, so give yourself a little breathing room in the schedule rather than booking tight against another appointment.
